Operational Model

 

We work with the following 5 dimensions of child care :

The Physical-health; hygiene; shelter; nutrition

Cognitive- life skills; education; decision making; motivation; resilience

Emotional- coping mechanisms; love; security; self- esteem; belonging; mastery and generosity

Spiritual- Belief ; Hope and Faith.

 

In order to ensure children have a good quality of life we  prepare and provide a well balanced meal to children who attend the drop in centre every week-day and also provide emergency food parcels or nutritional supplements when there is a need. We teach children and parents about basic hygiene and nutrition. 

Psychological Support

 

We understand that early childhood development is key growth in various aspects of life. The services below are some of the strategies we employ to address psychological challenges:

  1. Loss, grief and bereavement counselling

  2. Support groups

  3. Life skills

  4. Building resilience camps

  5. Family conferencing

  6.  Safe parks projects

  7. Developing circles of courage attending to the emotional needs of children

  8. Peer support clubs

 

Shelter and Care

 

Since most vulnerable children are without parents we render the following services to help them:

  1. Funeral assistance

  2. Blankets and clothing

  3. Renovations to shacks to improve living conditions

  4. Advocate for Poorest of the poor to receive services for free

  5. Arrange indigent burials

 

Educational Support

Our educational projects aim to equip our children with skills that will enable them to participate in the economy sector. We don't encourage handouts as they often create depency syndrom. We believe in long term relations to enable us to achieve the intended impact. Our educational support programmes include :

  1.  Providing access to education (advocacy, registrations, school uniforms, stationary)

  2. Tutoring and homework supervision (daily)

  3. Monitor school attendance and promote school retention (all children)

  4. Career guidance ( once per year at centres for grades 7-12)

  5. Advocacy for special needs education and access

  6. Computer literacy classes- we are busy training group nr 4 since the inception in April 2014.

  7. Community based early childhood development for children between 0-6 years of age that cannot afford day care

 

Child Protection

 

Our child protection services include but not limted to :

  1. Intervention when family culture is making children vulnerable (abuse, neglect, poverty, family violence, substance abuse),

  2. Teach children about their rights

  3. Advocate for children’s rights

  4. Teaching parenting skills

  5. Assistance to apply for grants, id’s and refer to service providers

  6. Ensure child participation

  7. Assessments and linking with resources

  8. Collaborate with Ngo’s, civil society and communities
